Top 5 Songs Artists Wish They Could Get A "Do-Over" On

5) Vanilla Ice - "Ninja Rap": When I was 10, this song was cool. Now, its pretty awful. I'm sure Vanilla knew it was awful back in '91 as well, but money talks. But you know, in the grand scheme of things, this was Vanilla Ice's 3rd largest hit. Doesn't say much for his career.

4) Eddie Murphy - "Party All The Time": Now I'm sure everyone is thinking, "Terence, Eddie Murphy can't sing, why is he considered an artist." Eddie can blow. He's done some singing on SNL and I'm sure we've all see Shrek. But this...this track is just pure garbage. I love that Rick James some how managed to keep his invovlement on this track pretty low profile. It's not completely Eddie's fault this track is so bad.

3) Prince - "BatDance": Prince is weird. That's a given. The song and related video took the purple one's weirdness to whole new level.

2) The Ramones - "Pet Semetary": I think I'm the first person on the Internet in about four years to even mention this song. Talk about sweeping one under the rug.

1) Run-DMC - "Ghostbusters": This song single handedly cost Run DMC any and all "street cred" they had. After they recorded this track they were seen as "sell-outs" by the hip-hop community.

(Note to all artists: Stay away from movie soundtracks.)

Top 5 Beat 'Em Ups

Lionel Richie - "Say You, Say Me"
Before Tuesday, I had never heard this song. Since then, I think I've listened to it at least 89 times. It's perfect. If you like soulful R&B, this is a song for you. Let's put it this way, I don't even like R&B and I like it.

And in case you're curious, the movie the song was written for was "White Nights". Thank you Wikipedia.

Rap/R&B
Rihanna - "Unfaithful"
As of late, I've been a Rihanna fan. Looks like Miss Pon de Forehead got her act together. This track has a different tone than most of her stuff, but I like this direction. I'm also a sucker for songs that tell a story.

Remix
Rick Ross ft. Jay-Z & Young Jeezy - "Hustlin (Remix)"
"As of now this is my Pre-Memorial Day pick for "Song of Summer 06." If not the original, the remix featuring Jay-Z and Young Jeezy is a DEFINITE summer banger."
- May 28, 2006 in reference to the original "Hustlin" being listed in SnS
At the time I made that statement I hadn't even heard the remix. Just with a lineup like that you know its gonna be good. I was right.

Rock
Angie Aparo - "Spaceship"
Once again, the white people are asleep at the wheel and the rock category suffers. Considering this is summertime and the charts are dominated by r&b and rap acts, I'm not surprised. With that being said, I decided to list Angie Aparo's "Spaceship" as this week's rock selection. Mostly because he has a show on July 21st at Headliners in Columbia. Good enough reason for me. Who wants to go?

Eric Prydz - "Call On Me"
Yes, this is the same song currently on the TerenceTron. I heard it on the radio and it got stuck in my head, though after being introduced to the video, that's definitely not a bad thing.

Summer Blazin 2007

Since summer is the only time of the year you can play the same songs over and over again, I've decided to share with you my list of "Top Summer Songs" for 2007. I usually only make a summer CD every 2 yrs, but this summer has been abnormally solid. While I haven't been able to pick THE song of the summer just yet, there's more than enough to blast out of your speakers.

(In no particular order)
  1. Cassie - "Me and U"
  2. Rick Ross - "Hustlin" (or the Remix ft. Jay-z & Young Jeezy)
  3. Young Joc - "It's Goin Down"
  4. Nelly Furtado - "Promiscuous"
  5. Chamillionaire ft. Krazie Bone - "Ridin'"
  6. Lil Jon ft. E-40 & Sean Paul - "Snap Yo Fingers"
  7. Three 6 Mafia - "Poppin My Collar"
  8. Gnarls Barkley - "Crazy"
  9. Fort Minor - "Where'd Yo Go?"
  10. Daddy Yankee ft. Young Buck & Lloyd Banks - "Rompe" (Remix)
  11. Rihanna - "Unfaithful"
  12. Sean Paul - "Temperature"
  13. Young Dro - "Shoulder Lean"
  14. Shakira ft Wyclef Jean - "Hips Don't Lie"
  15. Field Mob & Ciara - "So What"
  16. T.I. - "Why You Wanna"
  17. The Fresh Prince and DJ Jazzy Jeff- "Summertime"*
*this has to be the last track. It's mandatory.

Selecciones de la Noche de Domingo

New to Cinco, its Sunday Night Selections. BlogMix was getting crowded and Cinco needed some new posts. Seeing as how it is a list, it does fit into the format and *poof*, here you go. Though since it is Cinco, I did add a fifth category -- Remixes -- to showcase a particular remix/remake that needs some love.

Rap/R&B
Cassie - "Me & U"
From out of the Bad Boy camp, we have Cassie. This track is a definite keeper. Too bad no radio station ever tells you who it is singing the damn song, but that's where Piddy comes in. Unfortunately, unless Diddy follows up this track with something just as hot, Cassie might wind up being this summer's Tierra Marie..."affectionately" known in hip hop circles as T.Error Marie.

Rock
Angels and Airwaves - "The Adventure"
I know I just had an A&A track up here a couple weeks back but I like their stuff. And considering the state of rock lately (if I hear "Dani California" one more time I might scream) they're almost a breath of fresh air. I haven't had a chance to listen to the album, but between "The Adventure" and "The Gift" I'm almost ready to deem it purchase worthy.

Multiple - "Moonlight Shadow"
Officially this should go under the remix category, but it fits better here.
Originally I heard this song on some random 80s compliation. I liked it, but it was a bit hokey, so I paid it no mind. That version can be found HERE. Originally performed by Mike Oldfield and Maggie O'Reilly, the song left a lot to be desired.
Fast forward about 10 years to 2003 and I came across the song again in Dance Dance Revolution 5th Mix. That version (performed by Missing Heart) is easily my favorite and can be found HERE.
Fast forward maybe a week later and I'm searching on KaZaA and I come across version of the song that as remade somewhere inbetween the original me finding out about the DDR version. That version (by Groove Coverage) can be found HERE. This version of the song is my least favorite.
Fast forward to about a week ago. I'm in the mall and I walk by Abercombie and Fitch and I hear what I just know is "Moonlight Shadow." Sure enough, the chorus kicks in and its "Moonlight Shadow" -- unfortunately its the Groove Theory version. Fortunately, its the version Konami remixed for Trance Para Para. FYI -- The Para Para Paradise games are very similar to their Dance Dance Revolution cousins, except that you play with your entire body instead of just your feet. While Konami made the games, they did not make the fad (Wiki link for more info). Anyways, that version may now by my new favorite and can be heard HERE.

And in case you're curious, the reason there's 4 versions of that song here is because I couldn't decide which one I wanted to use. Go Joe.

Retro
Guns N Roses - "Welcome to the Jungle"
Do I even need to type anything? We all know it. And forutnately (or unfortunately) its been stuck in my head since Friday...and as a result of listening it about 30 times since then I think I'm going deaf in my left ear. The jungle isn't a fun place to be.

Remixes
Daddy Yankee ft. Lloyd Banks & Young Buck - "Rompe (G-Unit Remix)"
Well I'll be damned, but this shit is HOT. The original was good, but Banks and YB's addition to the track make for a rather interesting dynamic. I'm curious as to how this collaboration came about, but I'm not complaining that its around. And for those of you'll wondering, "Rompe" is "Break" in Spanish. Muchas gracias Arianna for translating that for me via text message.

Cinco Arena: One Night Stand

ECW One Night Stand '06 was a rather memorable pay-per-view. While I would love to give a recap here, that's not what Cinco is used for. Cinco is used for lists. Nothing more, nothing less. What I'm going to do is construct a list of things that were chanted at WWE Champion John Cena, before, during, and after his match with Rob Van Damn by the RABID ECW fans in attendance at the Hammerstein Ballroom. I've been watching wrestling for YEARS and I have never seen a wrestler have "Home-Field Advantage" -- and I've seen Ric Flair wrestle in the Carolinas. There was not a single John Cena fan in attendance...

(Hyphens indicate crowd pauses)

  • Ce-na-Sucks
  • Ce-na-Swal-lows
  • Ce-na-Sucks-Dick
  • You-Can't-Wrestle
  • Same-Old-Shit (during his 5-knuckle shuffle routine)
  • You-Still-Suck (after Cena pulled out a rather impressive powerbomb on RVD)
  • Fuck-You-Ce-na
  • BOOOO!!! (everytime Cena connected with a punch)
  • Ce-na-Fucked-Up (after a "spot" was botched -- though actually RVD messed up)
  • You're-A-Pus-sy
  • E-C-W, E-C-W, E-C-W (whenever they got tired of chanting everything else)
  • THANK-YOU-EDGE!, THANK-YOU-EDGE!! (after Edge ran and speared John Cena through a table, allowing RVD to hit a 5-star frog splash for the victory)
Edge hasn't been cheered for the better part of a year and some change. Leave it to the ECW fans to change that.
