Top 5 Non-Sports

Not saying I like all of these events. I just don't think they're sports.

5) Professional Wrestling
4) Rhythm Gymnastics
3) Horse Racing
2) Cheerleading
1) NASCAR

I don't have much patience for events that are subjectively judged or those where something else is doing all the work.

Have you ever watched a NASCAR race? A lot more going on there than just driving around in a circle/oval. Lots of strategy as far as aerodynamics and physics go. Not to mention the athleticism required to control a car going near 200 mph, or to get a car out of a pit in under 14 seconds. :p

Even horse racing has a level of competition too. It's not like they just ride the things and see which one is fastest. You have to know when you need to push your horse to get the best race out of them, and commanding one of those beasts does require a good deal of strength.

I suppose I'm with you on the other ones. Hell, wrestling has even been entertaining in years. I hate the way the gimmicks are the show, with little substance anymore. Even the gimmicks suck. I gave up when Mark Henry made out with the old woman.

Yes, I've watched NASCAR races before. Do I think its challenging? Sure. I also know that there's plenty of strategy involved. Now I don't know if I'd NASCAR drivers athletes for controlling a car going 170+ mph, but that's another discussion. The thing with NASCAR that gets me is that the whole event could just as easily be RC'ed from some arbitrary location. The human element could be removed from the main part of NASCAR and no one would notice. Also, if the cars were going 70+mph instead of 170mph on the same sized tracks, would people still be quick to call it a sport? I'd call it part of the drive on a summer vacation to Florida.

Unlike NASCAR, I actually like horse racing. I'm still not going to look at it as a sporting event thought. I'm pretty certain that if you take the jockey out of it, the horses could race just fine. I mean for greyhound races you don't see midgets riding them.

I probably should have clarified in my post, but I don't see sports as anything involving a motor or an animal. In those cases, you have to ask yourself who's doing 90% of the work. While the majority of motor/animal sports are entertaining, I see sports has having a key human element. Now while this would still include events like cheerleading and rhythmic gymnastics, those events are so subjectively judged it almost takes the sport out of the sport. Getting docked .8 of a point because the Russian judge didn't like your music and outfit? What type of bull is that? If all sports were like that the Oregon Ducks would never win a game.
